Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information the Couples Retro iPhone app and the couplesretro.com website collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Couples Retro is made by Aestheticallypleasing ("we", "us"). If you have questions, email support@aestheticallypleasing.app.
The short version: we collect only what the app needs to run a shared board for two people. We don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking SDKs, and we don't sell your data.
Information we collect
When you sign in
- Apple ID user identifier. Couples Retro uses Sign in with Apple. Apple gives us a unique identifier for your account in our app. We never see your Apple ID password.
- Email address, only if Apple shares it. You can choose to hide your email, in which case Apple gives us a private relay address that forwards to you.
- First name. Used so your partner sees your name on the board and on your notes.
What you and your partner create
- The notes you write, which column they are in, and when you wrote them.
- Reactions you add to notes and the notes you mark as "Talked about".
- Your board's schedule (weekly or end of month, and the reveal day and time) and column names.
- Your board's invite code, and which two accounts belong to the board.
Subscription status
Purchases are made through Apple. We use RevenueCat to check whether a board owner has an active Couples Retro Pro subscription. RevenueCat receives an app user identifier and the purchase information Apple provides (such as the product, trial and renewal status). We never receive your card or payment details.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos, health data or advertising identifier. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, and we don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How sealed notes work
Notes are stored on our servers so they can be shared with your partner. Before the reveal time your board has chosen, your partner's app only receives the number of notes you have written in each column. The text of a sealed note is not sent to your partner's device until the board opens. After the reveal, both of you can see every note on that board, including past boards.
How we use information
- To create your account, sign you in, and connect you with your partner.
- To store and sync your board, notes, reactions and history between your two devices.
- To open the board at the reveal time you chose.
- To check subscription status so the board owner's Pro features work for both of you.
- To answer support requests and to keep the service secure and working.
Reminders (the nudge before reveal day and the "board opens" notification) are scheduled locally on your iPhone. We don't use a third-party push or marketing service, and we don't send marketing emails.
Who we share information with
- Your partner. The person on your board sees your first name, your note counts before reveal, and your notes, reactions and "Talked about" marks after reveal.
- Service providers. Our backend is hosted with DigitalOcean, which stores the data on our behalf. RevenueCat processes subscription status as described above. Apple provides sign-in and handles payments under its own privacy policy.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Aestheticallypleasing.
We do not sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.
Retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. Signing out keeps your data so you can sign back in with the same Apple ID.
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings > Delete Account. If you own the board, this permanently deletes your account, your board and every note and past board on it, for both of you. If you joined a partner's board, it deletes your account and every note you wrote; your partner keeps the board. You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing support@aestheticallypleasing.app from the address linked to your account, or with your Support Code. See how to delete your account. Deleted data is removed from our active systems and may remain in routine backups for a limited time before it is overwritten.
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in iPhone Settings > your name > Subscriptions.
Security
Data is sent between the app and our servers over encrypted HTTPS connections, and access to our systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to collect as little as we can.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email support@aestheticallypleasing.app. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process your information to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract) and for our legitimate interests in keeping the service secure and working.
Our providers may store and process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Children
Couples Retro is a relationship app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email support@aestheticallypleasing.app and we will delete it.
This website
couplesretro.com is a static website. It does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes we will also tell you in the app.
